Information for Applicants

 

Purpose:

To support emerging, documentary filmmmakers with "finishing funds" for original feature length projects. For the purposes of this grant program, "finishing funds" shall include, but not be limited to, costs associated with the final stages of production, post-production, marketing and film festival expenses.

Limitations:

Limited to production companies or organizations in the US certified as "public charities" with 501 (c) (3) status, whose role is to supervise any project for which grant applicants receive funds.

Eligible films will be greater than 45 minutes in projected final length and more than 50% complete upon submission. Grants are not available for instructional or performance documentaries or student film projects.

Grant Range:

Grants will range in size from $1,000 to $2,500.

Funding Cycle:

The board meets twice a year. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Application deadlines are April 1st and October 1st each year.

Review Process:

Awards are based on creative excellence and the educational, social or inspirational relevance of the project, in keeping with the mission of Chrysalis Productions and all of its endeavors. The panel will consist of board members as well as a rotating group of industry experts. All written materials are sent to and reviewed by panelists prior to the meeting, where applicant's DVD clips will be screened. The panel has the sole ability to make awards. The panel meets within six weeks of the application deadline. You are notified by mail of the panel's decisions.

If You Receive a Grant Award:

You will receive an award letter, however, actual payment of the grant will be sent to the 501 (c) (3) sponsoring organization named in your application upon receipt of the letter of agreement outlined below.

We ask that you sign a letter of agreement regarding the following:

*Recognize receipt of the grant on your website and include a link to the grant section of the chrysalisproductions.com site.
*Recognize the grant in the credits of the film.
*Provide us with a copy of your completed film.
*Invite us to a screening should you have one in the NY/NJ area.
*Let others in your local filmmaking community know about the Chrysalis Grant Program.

We will announce your award and profile your film on our website, chrysalisproductions.com
